The photo possibilities seemed endless, and though it still felt a little sci-fi to me, it was a more friendly version - think Star Trek and the Federation of Planets trying to impress us with its view of the universe, brotherhood of man meets the beauty of technology, blah, blah, blah. And being a level up, the sun wasn’t cooking us quite as much. Since it was a bigger space, it felt less crowded even though it was far from empty. But this one, larger and with views into the level below through circular glass portals, was even more impressive. Up the escalator to the next level, titled Transcendence 2, and before us was another sprawling room of mirrors. And have I mentioned the views? You can look out in all directions and it’s pretty spectacular. Almost endless opportunities for photos here, so go ahead and pad your Instagram. Visitors were sitting and lying about in their shoe mitts, cell phones drawn and shooting away. It’s quite a unique visual experience, even though it can be a little disorienting at first. This is where you definitely will want those sunglasses! I imagine a visit at a different time of day would make it less oppressive, escaping the afternoon sun, but there was absolutely no escaping that strange alien ringing sound! It is definitely intended to be part of the multi-sensory, otherworldly experience, but it is one I did not enjoy much.īut that is not to say we weren’t impressed. It was February and we had jackets and masks on, and after spending a half hour being marched through some very warm hallways, it wasn’t exactly comfortable. Since we were here in the height of the afternoon sun, it was not only blindingly brilliant but quite hot. Called Transcendence 1, it’s a room made of mirrors, lit by the giant windows offering your first views of the city. Ok I’m being slightly dramatic here, but the difference from the dark beginnings of this journey and the first room you step into is quite a jolt. But soon enough, we were piled into a mirror-paneled elevator that featured a dazzling light show as we were whisked to the top in a matter of seconds as if entering the latest thrill ride at Disney World.Īnd then we stepped onto the surface of the sun. I’m not a person who sees well in the dark, so the single-file march in the dark to the elevator was a bit unnerving for me. The eerie, ringing soundtrack that permeates the air adds to the strangeness. And then it’s off through a circuitous route of dark hallways that absolutely gives you the feels of being abducted by aliens. It’s for the Unity Air experience upstairs. If it didn’t already feel like a sci-fi movie, next you get your face 3D scanned. You’ll need them if you don’t have your own. I also would advise against wearing a skirt in a hall of mirrors! Since we were going up in the middle of the afternoon, sunglasses were offered for the ascent. Stilettos, steel-toed boots or sports cleats are not permitted. You will be required to put on shoe coverings so as not to scratch the mirrored floors. But if you are interested in the photos, it’s all coordinated through your QR-coded wristband. Take your own at the top where the real action is. They aren’t the best photos - faked up as they are. You’ll get your photo taken (as it is with most observation deck experiences) which you can purchase later. You need to go through security, which is almost military in its efficiency, though all personnel were very nice and seemed well trained. The lines can be a little long, even with your timed ticket. You’ll need at least 30 minutes just to get in. It consists of three floors at the top of the One Vanderbilt Avenue skyscraper (the fourth tallest in Manhattan) designed to be a walk-through art installation of mirrored floors, sweeping views and somewhat over-stimulating sensory experiences. It is designed with the selfie generation in mind. The Summit at One Vanderbilt is not your parents’ observation deck date-night experience. What to expect visiting the Summit at One Vanderbilt

However, there are also some subtle differences. It benefits from years of FirePro driver development and includes optimisations for a massive range of CAD (and other 3D) tools. To all intents and purposes, Radeon Pro WX is just an evolution of AMD FirePro. The red and black FirePro W Series is now being replaced with the blue Radeon Pro WX Series – the idea being that AMD will benefit from the strong brand recognition that Radeon has in the consumer games sector. Regular readers of AEC Magazine will be familiar with AMD FirePro, but this summer AMD decided to call time on its long standing professional graphics brand. With the AMD Radeon Pro WX7100 it is now possible to get a VR capable professional CAD workstation for just over $2,000, and that even includes the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive VR head mounted display (HMD). At $799 (£649), the AMD Radeon Pro WX7100 (8GB) is around a third of the price of Nvidia’s cheapest workstation GPUs for VR, the Quadro M5000 (8GB) and the brand new Quadro P5000 (16GB). This month AMD shipped the first ever workstation ‘VR Ready’ GPU for under $1,000. But, in order for VR to go mainstream, and become a fixture on the desks of designers, engineers and architects where it can truly influence the design process, the cost of workstation GPU hardware needs to fall.įorking out $2,000 for a workstation-class ‘VR Ready’ GPU is hard to swallow when you are used to paying a fraction of that for one capable of accelerating 3D CAD.īut costs are already starting to come down. Consumer Virtual Reality headsets, powerful Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and new generation ‘CAD to VR’ software are all doing their bit to make VR a key technology for design, engineering, manufacturing, architecture and construction. The color of their needles is silvery green in the sun. At the same time, if you want a tall hedge in the shortest possible time, then Skyrocket is the better choice, but you have to use more plants to do this.Īs for color, both varieties are about the same. It follows that if you want a low hedge with less expense, you should choose Moonglow because it is wider and you will need fewer plants to create a dense screen. Moonglow Juniper also grows slower than Skyrocket. At maturity, however, they are roughly the same height (20 feet). Moonglow Juniper grows up to 7 feet wide while Skyrocket only grows up to 5 feet wide. The most distinctive feature of the Moonglow Juniper from the Skyrocket Juniper is the shape. For most people in the U.S., though, it doesn’t really matter. Taylor Juniper is hardier and can grow in the 3 USDA hardiness zone whereas Skyrocket can grow no more north than zone 4. You will need more Taylor Juniper than Skyrocket Juniper for a hedge. This is something to consider if you plan to use these plants as a hedge. Their height and growth rate are about the same but Skyrocket can reach 5 feet wide while Taylor usually does not grow wider than 3 feet. The second difference is that Skyrocket Juniper is slightly broader than Taylor Juniper. Skyrocket Juniper can also be green if it doesn’t get enough direct sunlight. Skyrocket Juniper has silvery-green needles while Taylor Juniper’s needles are bright green. The color of the needles is the main difference between Taylor Juniper and Skyrocket Juniper. I hope this article will help you choose the right variety to achieve your goal. Today we will compare Skyrocket Juniper with other similar junipers. Which means you will have to charge your watch more often.ģ. Any function aside from basic timekeeping, puts a larger drain on your watch's power reserves. Leave your watch near a window with lots of sunlight for at least 4 hours a week, to ensure it's batteries are replenished.Ģ. Wearing it everyday, even out in the sun, does not constitute it getting a full charge. The eco-drive is not an automatic watch, do not treat it as such. And for those of you having problems with your eco-drives let me leave you with these few tips:ġ. It is now my third favorite watch, right after my Omega Seamaster and Panerai Luminor Marina. Let's just say that I have now revised my earlier opinion of the eco-drive. Put the eco-drive under direct sunlight for 8 hours, and read the instruction manual that came with the watch. I could tell from his question that he had done this numerous times before, and after I was done, I was told to do 2 things. Probably attracted by the commotion I was making, the sales distributor for the eco-drive who happened to be there, approached me and calmly started asking me a series of questions about my particular experience with the watch. Eager for some small manner of retribution for the money i spent on that watch, I proceeded to berate the poor sales lady about the crappiness of their watch and the gall they had of continuing to sell what was in my opinion at the time, complete garbage. Luckily for me I was able to correct my opinion several months later when i chanced upon a store selling eco-drives at my local department store. It was then that I stuffed the watch deep into in my desk drawer and summarily decided that I had bought a lemon. I did what was advised, but although the watch started working again, the calendar and alarm functions were all screwed up with dials pointing at blank spaces and at some point, even the mode dial refused to work. I called the service center and was told that I should leave it under a lamp for 12 hours to recharge the batteries. Keep in mind that the only experience I have with anything solar-powered was my pocket calculator which works well enough under normal indoor lighting. Not realizing that eco-drive actually meant solar powered, I thought that the regular exposure it had to indoor lights was enough to get it going. After wearing it a few weeks, the various dials started to malfunction, and pretty soon the watch stopped working altogether. Let me just say that my first opinion of the eco-drive was that it was absolute garbage. Aside from being an ecodrive, the retrograde perpetual calendar function got my attention, and so a new addition to my watch family is introduced. Being an avid watch collector, I'm always on the lookout for any new and distinctive features that may set apart a propective acquisition from the thousands of other models that look and function like each other. Dual Time (the 2nd time also adjusts the calendar date, pretty useful if you're flying back and forth between international time zones) Retrograde Perpetual Calendar (nifty feature if you want to check what day a particular date was) Been a long time lurker and have gotten a lot of useful information from the various threads at WUS, so I thought it's time I gave something back. This will be my first post and first review so bear with me here. The hotel is decorated with moresch lamps, Swaroski crystals, African wood furniture, marble fireplaces, and damschi fabrics. This slice has been polished and then etched with a mild solution of nitric acid to reveal its beautiful interior crystalline structure known as a Widmanstatten Pattern. This complete slice is an extremely rare and interesting transitional specimen which shows characteristics of both pallasites (olivine crystals) and irons within the same specimen. Although the pallasite and siderite specimens are somewhat different in composition, they did originate within the same mass, which likely exploded high up in the atmosphere. Recently, colleagues of mine mounted a new expedition and returned to the original find site, where they were happily surprised to discover pallasites (attractive stony-iron meteorites containing olivine crystals) in the same zone, making Seymchan similar to the Glorieta Mountain (New Mexico) and Brenham (Kansas) meteorite, both of which have produced examples of pallasites and siderites (irons) from the same fall. Seymchan iron meteorite: The Seymchan meteorite was originally discovered near Magadan in Russia in 1967 and was classified as an IIE iron. Meteor is the scientific name for a shooting star: the light emitted as fragments-usually rather small-of cosmic material which we sometimes see at night, burning high up in the earth's atmosphere. Such pieces are described as "sculptural" because of their attractive, aesthetic shapes, and are highly sought after by meteorite collectors. This specimen is a twisted fragment - its interesting shape a result of the tremendous impact and explosion which made the crater. Unfortunately meteorite hunting is not allowed at the privately owned site, but specimens of this historic meteorite are sometimes available from old collectors and prospectors who hunted at the site decades ago. The crater is erroneously named - craters are formed by meteorites, not meteors - but it is spectacular nonetheless: the best preserved impact crater in the world and something of a mecca for meteorite enthusiasts. There isn't an option to be a hitting or pitching coach, though(unless I'm missing something I haven't seen before). You can either be a GM or a Manager, or you can assume both roles and control everything. You should be able to win every year and put out a competitive team. The game is built for career mode play. If you're playing with a window with a low budget/payroll team you're doing it wrong. After a certain point your budget should be pretty high. At least 4.Īlso raise ticket prices when you're winning and then your low budget team will have a good payroll in a few years and you won't have financial issues. You're not planning to extend them, so keeping them down only delays how soon they can help you. Call them up when they're ready, and move them before they reach fa. There's no point in keeping guys down as long as possible. Those guys are easy to replace, the elite guy is not. You don't trade away the elite player, you trade away the non-elite guys. Frontload it if you're worried about long term. Your payroll is low and you make it easier to win by adding a key fa or two when your payroll is low. Once you have your core up that's the time to strike in FA. If a player isn't worth his salary trade him. Then plan to use the rule 5 draft to stock your major league team with some of your backups, 4 and/or 5 starters, and some bullpen guys. The rule 5 shuffle: Every year before the rule 5 draft trade away your lower rated guys on your 40 man and any medium-tier prospects that are rule 5 eligible. A 50/65 player isn't worth calling up unless you have a huge hole or he is out of options wait until he's a 60/65. If you are only going to have a guy for three years you want those three years to be his best seasons. Keep your players in the minor leagues as long as you possibly can. You can't afford to have star guys going through arbitration, and you definitely can't afford to resign them as free agents. When you have an elite prospect either sign them to a long-term deal before they have played their first full MLB season or be prepared to trade them away after they have played their third. You can sign a guy if they're cheap but otherwise you need to avoid free agency. That's about where I'm at, any tips would be great. Extremely popular and locked up long term, so there is that to build upon. One of the prospects I had traded for turned into a 5 star pitcher, and is now the reigning Cy 2 years in a row. I put alot of effort into creating a decent development system with all the coaches being the same focus, and go in with inexpensive ground ball pitchers with decent movement and good defense. So basically I need tips on how to run an effective team with a cheap owner. Will often reduce scouting, and development budgets too. Sometimes he will even reduce it again and I'm left with no cap space for the year. The owner has sporadically thrown a bit of extra money my way, but with such a low budget I have no idea how to make the team competitive. Have been a basement dweller in the NL East the rest of the way. Forced to trade away my best or most expensive players, and left with a very subpar team. I tried to just go in with the roster I had, but was met with alot of injuries and the team did not perform well. Immediately left with a negative budget of about 40 mil, and a new goal of slashing the expenses about 30%. The team was sold to a new owner, with a penny pinching spending personality. All the while I was 3rd in team attendance. Had a player finish second in mvp voting that year. I had Signed some big free agents, tried to make a real run at it and had a year of 86 wins, not great, but something to build upon for an expansion team. Team started with maximum fan interest, and the owner steadily increased the budget every year with my improved results for about 3 years. Started an expansion save as Montreal Expos. Stack the States has filled a void in the average child's education – geography - and done it splendidly! Stack the States is incredibly pleasing to the eye and has relevant photo backgrounds that change as you move through the levels. This reference helps students to begin to recognize the various shapes and sizes of each state as they build configurations by moving, rotating, and placing each state in a stack. Our favorite feature is how all the states are scaled to size. Will you get three large states that are easily stacked and reach the checkered line right off the bat? Or, will you get a slew of smaller states that don't stack easily and fall down, collapsing the tower? Perhaps they'll tumble off the platform completely! The laws of gravity and physics play an integral role in how the states react to being stacked. Your goal is to carefully create a stack of states that reaches the checkered line."
